Frequently Asked Questions
[Q] Can I use ROAM Ceramic Shampoo on a GRP caravan, campervan or motorhome?
Yes. ROAM Ceramic Shampoo is specifically formulated for GRP (glass-reinforced plastic), the most common material in caravan bodywork. The SiO₂ ceramic polymer bonds into GRP's porous surface structure, filling micro-pores and creating a smoother, more hydrophobic finish. It is safe and effective on GRP panels, mouldings and roofs.
[Q] Will ROAM Ceramic Shampoo remove black streaks?
Yes. ROAM is specifically formulated to address black streaks — the most common complaint of caravan owners. Its surfactant blend emulsifies the organic and inorganic compounds that make up black streak deposits, lifting them during the wash. The ceramic protection layer deposited with each wash then makes future black streak adhesion significantly harder.
[Q] How does ceramic shampoo differ from regular car shampoo?
Standard car shampoos are formulated for painted steel surfaces with a clear-coat finish. Caravans use GRP, gel-coat and aluminium — porous, UV-sensitive materials that behave very differently. Car shampoos can strip existing protectants from leisure vehicle surfaces and don't address the specific challenges (black streaks, UV oxidation, biological growth) that caravan owners face. ROAM is engineered for leisure vehicle substrates from the formulation level up.
[Q] Is ROAM safe on acrylic windows?
Yes. ROAM is formulated to be safe on acrylic windows (Perspex/Plexiglas). It does not contain solvents or abrasives that could cloud or scratch acrylic surfaces. The hydrophobic ceramic layer also reduces the frequency with which windows need wiping, decreasing the risk of micro-scratching during drying.
[Q] What is SiO₂ and why does it matter for leisure vehicle washing?
SiO₂ is silicon dioxide — the same compound found in glass and quartz. In ceramic detailing products, it is processed into nano-scale polymer chains that bond to vehicle surfaces, creating a hard, smooth, UV-stable and hydrophobic protection layer. For caravan surfaces, SiO₂ fills the porous structure of aged GRP and gel-coat, restoring gloss and dramatically slowing re-contamination. Unlike waxes, it bonds chemically rather than sitting on the surface, making it far more durable.
[Q] How often should I wash my leisure vehicle with ROAM?
For best results and maximum ceramic layer build-up, we recommend washing every 4–6 weeks during active touring, and a full wash before winter storage and again when the van comes out in spring. Each wash adds to the cumulative ceramic protection, so regular use compounds the protective benefit over time.
[Q] Is ROAM Ceramic Shampoo environmentally safe?
ROAM is formulated with biodegradable surfactants and is free from chlorinated solvents, formaldehyde and microplastics. The SiO₂ ceramic polymer component is chemically inert once cured and does not leach into waterways. ROAM is a UK-made product produced in smaller runs to minimise waste.
[Q] Does ROAM work on motorhomes and campervans as well as caravans?
Yes. ROAM Ceramic Shampoo is formulated for all leisure vehicles including touring caravans, static caravans, motorhomes (A-class, coachbuilt, van conversions), panel van campervans, fifth-wheels and horse boxes.
[Q] Is ROAM a British brand?
Yes. ROAM is an independent UK brand, founded and based in the North West of England. Products are formulated, blended and bottled in Britain.
